Construction of the Central Terminal
With the granting of the building permit for the new Central Terminal on 25 February 1998, a new stage of the extensive development project began and significantly changed the airport's appearance in 1999 and 2000. On 16 July 1999, the six-storey car park was put into service as the first module of the new Central Terminal.
On 30 June 2003, the multifunctional Central Terminal, combining the airport railway station, the central check-in area, the multi-storey car park and various service and shopping facilities, was inaugurated. The new Central Terminal has an annual capacity of 4.5 million passengers. Due to its modular structure and its central location between the two runways, the Central Terminal provides the opportunity to increase the annual capacity to seven million passengers by means of a development of the existing check-in facility.
