FireTraining

On 7 June 2010 a state-of-the-art firefighter training centre was opened at the airport.
It is the only centre of its kind in Germany currently to have a gas-fired Boeing 747 simulator for training fire fighting on an aircraft.

In addition, the centre offers a large range of theoretical and practical training opportunities.

We invite you to learn more about the training courses available and would be happy to welcome you here.

Boeing 747- Fire Simulator

With its 100 square metres of spill fire (liquid fuel fire), the gas-fired, 35 meter-long mock-up (two levels with a cargo bay unit) provides the opportunity to fight fires on an aircraft – like a spill, engine or cabin fire. Additionally, the evacuation of passengers can be trained. The simulator is also equipped with special units, such as the flashover fire section on the port side of the cabin aisle’s roof and the piercing tool.

  • Training Topics:
    Landing Gear Fire
    Engine Fire
    Rear Engine Fire (MD 11)
Units: Cockpit, Kitchen, Row of Passenger Seats, Luggage Compartment, Cargo Bay

Respiratory Protection Training Section

The respiratory protection section, located in the Fire Training Building, is 50 metres long. It is equipped with a preparation area and a control station with recording equipment. Additionally, the training area has a “hot door”, separate rows of aircraft passenger seats and a chemicals station.

Fire Container

The wood-fired, mobile fire container allows to realistically train fire fighting in buildings – including the dangers posed by breakthrough and flue gas explosions. It has the possibility to witness flashovers and backdrafts from the observation room. The container can also be equipped with furniture in order to practice active fire fighting. For simulating cellar and basement fires, the 14 metre-long fire container provides a rooftop entrance with a stairway in the observation room. The mobile facility allows firefighters to train and practice realistic flashover or backdraft situations wherever they like.

Basin For Fire Extinguisher Training

This basin is 14 square metres in size and equipped with separate upturn beams and drainage. Using a separate drainage system, extinguishing agents are collected in containers to be disposed of in an environmentally friendly way. One standing and one lying dummy are available for the training courses.
