Traffic volumes at Leipzig/Halle Airport

Since the German reunification, Leipzig/Halle Airport has experienced a fast-paced development in traffic. While in 1990 there were only just under 275,000 passengers, there were more than a million passengers by 1992. This number doubled by 1995.

This positive trend continued during the following years. With the inauguration of the 3,600-metre Runway North, which has enabled intercontinental traffic from Leipzig/Halle ever since, the capacity of the airport increased further.

The launch of the Central Terminal with an integrated station (InterCityExpress-capable) in 2003 increased the capacity of Leipzig/Halle Airport to 4.5 million passengers per year.

With the introduction of Runway South, also measuring 3,600 metres, in July 2007, Leipzig/Halle Airport now features a parallel runway system.
